Dayot Upamecano promises to make 'right decision' amid Liverpool links

The French centre-back's current deal runs out at the end of the campaign, meaning he could leave Bayern on a free transfer this summer.

Reports in Spain suggest Real Madrid have already reached a verbal agreement to sign the 26-year-old once the season concludes, though no official confirmation has been made.

Liverpool are also understood to be monitoring developments closely, having previously attempted to reinforce their defence during the last transfer window.

The Reds' 35-million-pound move for Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi dramatically collapsed on deadline day after Palace chairman Steve Parish pulled the plug, citing the club's first-ever European campaign as the reason for keeping their star defender.

That setback has left Liverpool in search of alternative targets ahead of next summer, with Upamecano emerging as a prime candidate.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl recently admitted that the player's representatives are "already receiving calls from interested clubs", adding further weight to speculation of an impending departure.

"It's normal if other clubs are calling his agents, it's part of the game. I've already said that we want to do our best and get new contract done. We are on it," said Eberl.

Currently away on international duty with France, Upamecano has remained calm amid the uncertainty.

"My agent is taking care of it," Upamecano told L'Equipe.

"We will make the right decision. I am receiving good advice. I am focused on this season and my goals with the club and the national team. I don't have the headspace for it."
