France assistant coach Guy Stephan confirms that Deschamps is back with the team for training after making a short trip to south-western France following the death of his mother earlier in the week.
"I am thinking a lot about Didier. I will speak to him later, but we are all really pleased that he is coming back very soon and he will be at training tomorrow afternoon," Stephan says after France's 4-1 win over Norway.
Deschamps misses France's final Group I match at Gillette Stadium near Boston, but his team delivers another dominant performance to secure top spot with three victories from three matches and a maximum nine points.
Ousmane Dembele is the star of the show, scoring a first-half hat-trick to help France overpower Norway, while Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Desire Doue adds the fourth goal late in the game.
"Ousmane was so clinical today. To score three goals in a World Cup game is exceptional," Stephan says.
He also praises Doue's contribution, adding: "I think Doue's goal is the first header of his career."
France controls the match against a Norway side that rests key players, including Erling Haaland and captain Martin Odegaard, but Stephan believes the performance shows plenty of positives.
"There are lots of interesting things in the game and we could probably have scored a couple more goals," he says. "Norway are a quality side, but they do not play a full-strength team."
The victory keeps France among the leading contenders for the World Cup title. The 2018 champions and 2022 runners-up now prepare for their last-32 tie at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Tuesday against Sweden.
Stephan explains that finishing first in the group is important for both sporting and practical reasons.
"We really want that first place for logistical reasons because a 45-minute flight is better than three or four hours to Dallas," he says.
Norway finish second in the group and travel to Dallas to face Ivory Coast in the Round of 32.
