Dominic Solanke double rescues point for Tottenham as Man City lose ground in title race

City were firmly in control at half-time after first-half goals from Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo, with Spurs again booed off by their supporters following a poor opening 45 minutes.

Cherki opened the scoring after being allowed to advance unchecked before firing low past Guglielmo Vicario, while Semenyo doubled the lead just before the interval after Rodri intercepted a loose clearance from Radu Dragusin and teed up Bernardo Silva, who supplied the final pass.

Tottenham showed a marked improvement after the break and were handed a lifeline eight minutes into the second half. Solanke reduced the deficit at the near post under pressure from Marc Guehi, with City unhappy over the build-up but the goal standing following a VAR check.

The hosts continued to apply pressure and were rewarded in the 73rd minute when Solanke produced a deft back-heeled finish from Conor Gallagher's cross to beat Gianluigi Donnarumma and level the scores.

Both sides had chances to win the match late on. Donnarumma made key saves from Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons, while City wasted opportunities through Tijjani Reijnders, who fired two efforts off target.

The result represents another setback in City's title defence, coming after Arsenal's win earlier in the weekend, and leaves Pep Guardiola's side with ground to make up ahead of their trip to Liverpool.

For Tottenham, the comeback provided a timely boost for head coach Thomas Frank, although defensive concerns remain after Cristian Romero was withdrawn at half-time and errors contributed to both City goals.
