The 30-year-old former SuperSport United, Witbank Spurs, University of Pretoria and Durban City shotstopper has just one national cap, from a 2014 friendly against the Ivory Coast.
He was second choice behind Stanley Nwabali, but has since stepped into his place, following the Nigeria international keeper's January departure.
Msibi has six clean sheets in 10 league appearances in recent weeks.
Speaking after their recent 2-1 to Stellenbosch in the Betway Premiership at the weekend, Vilakazi has praised the impact of Msibi on his team, while admitting that a few errors may have counted against him when Hugo Broos was naming his latest squad.
"I feel there was a stage where the Bafana Bafana technical team could have considered him. But as I've noted, he made some errors in the three games leading up to the national team selection, which unfortunately worked against him," Vilakazi said on FARPost.
"So he was a bit shaky, I must be honest, because he made a few errors in his game. But it's our game. We build from the back, so once he does it, it looks nice, but we mustn't forget that sometimes we will make mistakes and we will suffer from those.
“But he's a goalkeeper who, in future, if not very soon, he will have a very serious impact on our national team.”
