Cape Town City Season Review: Calamitous season ends in relegation for the Citizens
Cape Town City had a disastrous campaign in the 2024/25 Betway Premiership, succumbing to relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship for the first time.
The 25-year-old, renowned for his consistency and leadership, most recently played for Rivers United in the Nigerian Premier League, where he amassed over 160 appearances and played a pivotal role in their historic 2021-22 title-winning campaign.
Godswill, who also represented Nigeria at the 2022 African Nations Championship in Algeria, expressed his gratitude and determination upon joining Stellenbosch.
"First of all, I want to thank God for bringing me here after a long wait," he said. "I'm very happy to be here and to be part of the Stellenbosch family."
The Nigerian international praised the club's recent achievements, including their MTN8 Cup final appearance and participation in the CAF Confederation Cup. "It is a great club that has already achieved some great things, and I am looking forward to adding to that with my experience," he added.
"I want to contribute positively on the pitch, and I can promise that I will do everything within my reach to ensure that the fans and the coaches are happy."
Godswill will don the No. 16 jersey and could make his debut next month, offering valuable defensive depth to a Stellenbosch side looking to maintain their upward trajectory.
With his proven track record, the Nigerian defender is expected to play a crucial role as the club targets further success domestically and on the continent.
