Senegal coach apologises after AFCON final walkout drama
Senegal coach Pape Thiaw has apologised after instructing his players to leave the pitch during the 2025 AFCON final against Morocco on Sunday, a decision that briefly overshadowed the clash.

The Super Eagles edged the Pharaohs 4-2 on penalties at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca on Saturday evening after a tense third-place playoff ended goalless in regulation time, securing Nigeria a podium finish at the tournament.
While the victory ensured Nigeria avoided leaving AFCON empty-handed, it also served as a defining moment for Chelle, who acknowledged that the pressure on his position had been immense heading into the encounter.
"It would have been very difficult for me to continue as coach if we had lost this game," Chelle told All Nigeria Soccer after the match.
The Malian tactician praised his players for their commitment throughout a demanding tournament, admitting he would have felt deep disappointment had their efforts gone unrewarded.
"I was so disappointed for my guys because they gave everything during this AFCON," he said.
"At this moment, I am very proud of them. I am very proud to be the coach of Nigeria."
Chelle, who took charge of the Super Eagles during a challenging transition period, highlighted the work done behind the scenes over the past year, insisting the bronze medal reflected steady progress rather than a single performance.
"We had one month together for this tournament and twelve months of work overall," he explained.
"This is good right now because we did a lot of work with the players."
He also touched on the difficulties of managing Nigeria as a foreign coach, admitting he had been demanding but was rewarded with total commitment from the squad.
"It is not easy when a French guy comes in and asks a lot. They gave everything for me, and they have my respect for life," he added.
