Estevao set to miss Chelsea clash at Newcastle

The 18-year-old Brazilian did not feature in Chelsea's 3-1 Carabao Cup win over Cardiff City, a match the Blues won thanks to two goals from Alejandro Garnacho and another from Pedro Neto.

His absence raised questions, especially after he had impressed earlier in the competition by scoring against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the previous round.

After the match, Maresca explained the situation around the teenager. "Estevao has a small muscular problem," the Chelsea head coach said. "A light injury. He won't be available for Newcastle, but we will see for the next one. I think he can be available for the next one."

Estevao joined Chelsea from Palmeiras in the summer after a long-agreed deal and has quickly made an impact despite not being a regular starter.

He has recorded five goal contributions in 19 appearances in all competitions, including three goals in the Champions League, and has caught the eye with his pace and confidence on the ball.

Chelsea are not short of alternatives. Maresca can call on Pedro Neto, Tyrique George, Jamie Gittens, Garnacho, Facundo Buonanotte and Cole Palmer to cover the wide roles, ensuring depth remains strong despite the setback.

Even so, Chelsea will be keen to have Estevao back soon. His rapid adaptation to English football has excited supporters, and his estimated value of around 80 million euros, already places him among the most highly rated players in the squad, behind only Palmer, Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.
