FIFA Club World Cup wrap: Fluminense and Inter Milan victorious

Fluminense rally late on to defeat Ulsan

Fluminense surged past Ulsan HD 4-2 in a thrilling Group F battle at the FIFA Club World Cup in East Rutherford, N.J., on Saturday night, eliminating the South Koreans and keeping their own hopes alive.

Juan Freytes netted the go-ahead goal in the 83rd minute-his first for the club - after Ulsan failed to clear a corner. Keno sealed the win with a stoppage-time header off a John Arias cross.

Fluminense had taken an early lead through Arias' stunning 25-yard free kick, but Ulsan flipped the script late in the first half. Jinhyun Lee and Um Won-Sang struck in quick succession, giving the Koreans a 2-1 halftime edge.

Nonato leveled in the 66th minute after Ulsan failed to clear Keno's cross, setting up the dramatic finish.

Fluminense (1-0-1, 4 points) now sit level with Dortmund atop the group, ahead of their final match against Mamelodi Sundowns. Ulsan (0-2-0) are eliminated.

Stalemate in Pasadena keeps River Plate, Monterrey in knockout round hunt

Monterrey held River Plate to a tense 0-0 draw in a fiery Group E encounter at the Rose Bowl on Saturday, keeping both teams in contention for the FIFA Club World Cup knockout rounds.

Goalkeeper Esteban Andrada was the hero for the Mexican side, making crucial second-half saves to deny Franco Mastantuono and Miguel Borja. Monterrey, now on two points, had also drawn with Inter Milan earlier in the week.

River Plate, who ended the match with 10 men after Kevin Castano's stoppage-time red card, move level on four points with Inter Milan at the top of the group.

Despite a lively crowd, clear chances were few. River came closest through Giuliano Galoppo, Lucas Martinez Quarta, and Mastantuono, but couldn't find a breakthrough.

Monterrey face Urawa Red Diamonds next, while River prepare for a pivotal showdown with Inter Milan.

Valentn Carboni's late strike sends Inter Milan past Urawa

Valentin Carboni scored a stoppage-time winner as Inter Milan rallied to beat Urawa Red Diamonds 2-1 on Saturday at Seattle's Lumen Field, eliminating the Japanese side from the FIFA Club World Cup.

Ryoma Watanabe gave Urawa an early lead in the 11th minute, finishing a low cross from Takuro Kaneko. Inter nearly replied through Lautaro Martinez, who hit the bar, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who missed a clear chance in the second half.

But Martinez finally equalized in the 78th minute with an acrobatic finish from a Nicolo Barella corner.

Then in the 92nd minute, Carboni - making his first appearance for Inter in over two years - pounced on a deflection to slot home the winner.

The victory puts Cristian Chivu's Inter (1-1-0) in strong position to advance, while Urawa (0-2-0) crash out after back-to-back losses.
