Fiston Mayele breaks goalless streak to become Pyramids top scorer

The Democratic of Congo international had not scored a goal since October 2025, where he netted in a 2-0 victory against Pharco FC at the 30 June Stadium.

Mayele had come on as a 78th minute substitute against Ghazl before putting the game to bed with a decisive goal in injury time, surpassing Ibrahim Adel.

The 31-year-old will be looking to regain his best form to ensure he participates in his nations 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff final against the winner of New Caledonia and Jamaica.

He featured mostly as a substitute at the recent 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, starting once but failing to score or assist as The Leopards crashed out in the Round of 16 after losing to Algeria.

The forward has 36 caps for the national team, scoring five goals.

Mayele will look to continue scoring when Pyramids host Zamalek in a top of the table clash on Sunday, with the home side trailing the visitors by a single point.
