Florian Wirtz transfer talk heats up as Bayer Leverkusen slam Bayern Munich rumours

The 21-year-old German international remains one of Europe's most coveted talents, and the transfer saga surrounding him shows no signs of slowing down.

A report from Foot Mercato, suggested that Wirtz had nearly finalised personal terms with Bayern Munich, hinting at a blockbuster summer move.

However, Leverkusen swiftly shut down the story, with a club spokesperson telling RTL and ntv that the claim was the "1000th false rumor" about their prized asset. The dismissal underlines Leverkusen's determination to keep hold of Wirtz, who has been instrumental in their recent successes, including the 2023-24 Bundesliga title.

Despite Leverkusen's rebuttal, Bayern Munich are widely seen as frontrunners to sign Wirtz. The Bavarians have long admired the attacking midfielder, with honorary president Uli Hoeness openly expressing his desire to bring him to the Allianz Arena.

Hoeness revealed recently, that Wirtz's parents visited him last year, highlighting the close ties between the club and the player's family. "It's a dream to have a player like Florian at Bayern," Hoeness said, as reported by TransferFeed.

Wirtz's camp, however, appears focused on his development rather than an immediate transfer. His father and agent, Hans Wirtz, indicated, that any move would hinge on the coaching setup at a potential new club. "Florian is basing his decision primarily on the coach," Hans Wirtz told kicker, suggesting that Bayern's Vincent Kompany would need to convince the player of his vision.

Leverkusen remain confident in their ability to retain Wirtz, whose contract runs until 2027. CEO Fernando Carro addressed Bayern's public pursuit, calling it a "show" and confirming no offer had been made. "There's no contact, so there's no offer from Bayern," Carro told Sky Germany. The club are also exploring a contract extension, potentially with a release clause of around 120 million euros, according to TransferFeed.

For now, Wirtz's future remains undecided, but the battle for his signature is shaping up to be one of the transfer market's fiercest.
