Former Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini named new Roma boss

The 67-year-old arrives in the capital after an impressive nine-year tenure at Atalanta, where he most recently guided the club to a third-place finish in Serie A and Champions League qualification for the 2024–25 season. His standout achievement came this past campaign, when he led the Bergamo side to a historic UEFA Europa League triumph - defeating previously unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen in the final.

Gasperini replaces Claudio Ranieri, who stepped down at the end of the season after guiding Roma to a fifth-place finish and securing a Europa League spot. The 73-year-old, who came out of retirement last November to take charge following the dismissal of Ivan Juric, has now transitioned into an executive role at the club.

Roma released a statement praising their new appointment:

"Gasperini's career is defined by its creative tactics, dedication to hard work, and exceptional player development. Both ownership and Claudio Ranieri believe he is the right man for the mission."

Known for his high-intensity style of play and talent for developing young players, Gasperini is expected to usher in a new tactical identity at Roma, as the club looks to re-establish itself among Europe’s elite.

His arrival marks a new chapter at the Stadio Olimpico, with Roma aiming to build on recent progress under Ranieri while pursuing silverware both domestically and in Europe.
