In-form Aston Villa knock Tottenham out of FA Cup to advance to Fourth Round

Villa took firm control of the contest in the first half, opening the scoring after 22 minutes through Emi Buendia. The Argentine midfielder finished a slick attacking move with a fierce shot that flew into the roof of the net, silencing much of the home support.

Tottenham's frustrations deepened as Randal Kolo Muani saw a goal ruled out for offside, while top scorer Richarlison was forced off before the interval with a hamstring injury.

Morgan Rogers doubled Villa's advantage in first-half stoppage time, again benefiting from a well-worked move as he calmly found the net to give the visitors a 2-0 lead at the break.

Sections of the Tottenham crowd responded with boos and jeers at the half-time whistle, adding to the growing pressure on manager Thomas Frank.

Spurs, wearing an all-white kit to commemorate the 125th anniversary of their 1901 FA Cup-winning side, showed renewed urgency after the restart.

Xavi Simons tested Villa goalkeeper Marco Bizot with a long-range effort before Wilson Odobert reduced the deficit with a low finish following a precise through ball from Kolo Muani.

Tottenham pushed hard for an equaliser as momentum swung their way, with Simons striking the post and another of his efforts later ruled out for offside.

Villa remained a threat on the counter, and Buendia came close to scoring again only for Pedro Porro to clear his effort off the line.

Despite sustained second-half pressure, Tottenham were unable to find a leveller. Villa held firm to secure the win and ensure their name was in the hat for the next round of the FA Cup.
