Injury blow for Kaizer Chiefs ahead of Golden Arrows grudge match

The 31-year-old former Bidvest shotstopper cemented his place as Amakhosi's number one and captain last season.

He went on to play 35 games in all competitions and was between the poles when Amakhosi lifted the Nedbank Cup last term.

This season he has played every minute of Chiefs' campaign but will now be sidelined for a number of weeks with a knee injury.

Fernando da Cruz must make do without his skipper, as well as striker Wandile Duba, who has also been ruled out of the match.

The last time these two sides faced each other, at the beginning of the current season, Arrows emerged 1-0 winners from their MTN8 quarter-final.

A club statement read: "Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen sustained a knee injury during training on Tuesday morning and will be sidelined for an estimated four to six weeks.

"The experienced shot-stopper, who has featured in every match since the season kicked off in August, injured the medial collateral ligament in his left knee and will now undergo rehabilitation.

"Adding to the concerns, attacker Wandile Duba has been ruled out for approximately two weeks after picking up a hip and groin injury.

"Duba, who has already netted three goals this season, has a minor defect in the affected area, and the medical team will monitor his progress closely over the coming week before determining the next course of action.

"Both players have played key roles in Kaizer Chiefs’ strong start to the campaign, and their absence will be felt. The Club extends its best wishes to Petersen and Duba for a speedy recovery and looks forward to welcoming them back to action soon."

Chiefs head into this match in fourth place on the league standings, with 12 points from six games, from three wins and three draws.

Arrows are down in seventh with seven points from six games, that includes one win and one defeat.
