Jamal Musiala ruled out of Bayern Munich's Bundesliga opener with VfB Stuttgart

Jamal Musiala ruled out of Bayern Munich's Bundesliga opener with VfB Stuttgart

According to Kicker and Bild, the 23-year-old is expected to resume team training this week but will not be part of Vincent Kompany's squad for the opening league fixture.

Musiala has been closely monitored by Bayern's medical team after collapsing during pre-season matches against RB Leipzig and Heidenheim. The Germany international later revealed that he had been diagnosed with absence seizures linked to a neurological dysfunction.

Bayern are now working with Musiala to regulate his medication and reduce the risk of further incidents before he returns to competitive action.

His absence leaves Kompany with decisions to make in attack. Nathaniel Brown could again operate in the central attacking midfield role after starting there in Bayern's 2-1 DFL-Supercup victory over Borussia Dortmund.

New signing Ismael Saibari is another option, although the Morocco international is still building his fitness after recovering from an injury suffered during the World Cup.

Bayern will therefore begin their Bundesliga title defence without one of their key attacking players.
