Benfica edge Bayern in Club World Cup clash in Charlotte
Bayern slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Benfica in their final Club World Cup Group C match on Tuesday, with Andreas Schjelderup's early strike the difference in Charlotte.
Rumours had swirled that Bayern Munich were reigniting their pursuit of the 20-year-old English talent to bolster their attacking options.
Reports suggested Watzke and Eberl had met to negotiate a possible deal for Gittens, who has been a standout performer for Dortmund this season. However, Watzke was quick to dismiss the claims.
"No, that's complete nonsense," Watzke told Sky Germany when asked about the alleged meeting. "No such talks have taken place."
Dortmund are understood to value Gittens at around 65 million euros, a figure that reflects his growing reputation in European football.
The young winger has also attracted interest from Chelsea, with sources indicating he has agreed personal terms with the Premier League side. However, no transfer fee has been settled between the clubs, keeping Bayern in the race for his signature.
Gittens, who has impressed with his pace, dribbling, and goal-scoring ability, remains a key part of Dortmund's plans.
The club's official X account recently posted highlights of Gittens' latest performance, with the caption: "Jamie Gittens is cooking! #BVB's rising star."
Head coach Nuri Şahin also praised the winger, saying in a recent press conference, "Jamie has incredible potential. He's shown he can compete at the highest level, and we're excited to see him develop here."
Dortmund's firm stance suggests they are determined to hold onto their prized asset, leaving Bayern and Chelsea to battle it out for the talented youngster.
