Tah, who joined Bayern from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, needed several matches to settle before locking down a starting role alongside Upamecano. Since then, the duo have become Kompany's first-choice central defenders, playing a key part in Bayern's defensive stability this season.
Uncertainty over Upamecano's future had raised concerns that the partnership might be short-lived, with his previous contract set to expire in the summer of 2026. However, reports now confirm the France international has agreed a new five-year extension that will keep him at the Allianz Arena until June 2030, with an official announcement expected soon.
Speaking about the news, Tah told reporters: "It felt like I told him 100 times a day to extend his contract. If he has now agreed, then I am very, very happy about it because he is extremely important for us."
The new deal reportedly includes a salary of around 20 million euros per year and a signing bonus of 20 million euros. A release clause, believed to be between 60 million euros and 70 million euros, is expected to become active from 2027.
Negotiations were lengthy and complicated, with discussions stretching into early February 2026 before reaching a full agreement. During that period, Upamecano attracted strong interest from several top European clubs. Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Manchester United monitored the situation closely, while transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Real Madrid never made a formal offer despite frequent links.
Upamecano's extension follows a strong run of form under Kompany, with the 27-year-old widely praised as a defensive leader. With Tah now settled and the Frenchman poised to commit long term, Bayern appear set to maintain a stable core at the back as they prepare for the decisive stages of the season.
