Maresca officially took charge after Guardiola ended his remarkable 10-year reign, signing a three-year contract following successful spells with Leicester City and Chelsea, where he won the Conference League and Club World Cup. His first match in charge ended in a penalty shootout defeat to Inter Milan after a 1-1 draw in Hong Kong during City's pre-season tour.
While replacing one of the club's greatest-ever managers presents a significant challenge, Gvardiol said the players have complete faith in the club's appointment.
"The level is that high and he has been chosen with reason as the manager," Gvardiol said.
"I think he has quality, has some new ideas and also we need to see what we are going to do with the style of play, the football we are going to play and the tactics.
"I think he is the perfect one, but of course it takes time. It's something totally new, it's not easy to change the manager, so we will take time."
The Croatia international stressed that adapting to Maresca's methods will be a collective effort, with the players determined to help the new boss settle as quickly as possible.
"It's our job to help him as much as possible and also to listen, to try to adapt as quickly as possible," he said.
"I met him, we spoke a little bit about my injury and also how we played, how I played before with Pep, and that's it, more or less."
Guardiola's departure brought an end to one of the most successful managerial eras in Premier League history, although the announcement only came during the closing stages of last season after months of speculation.
Reflecting on the timing, Gvardiol believes the Spaniard handled the situation correctly, even if some felt the squad could have been informed earlier.
"Some would say he could have told us earlier, some would say not," Gvardiol said.
"I think it was perfect timing because it can affect you mentally if he would have said it earlier.
"We knew at some point he has to tell us. He has been here for 10 years, and it is time to rest a little bit and retire. We could feel it.
"Unfortunately, it was time for him to go, but who knows with him, maybe after six months when he gets the energy back."
With Guardiola's era now over, City are beginning life under Maresca, and Gvardiol is confident the squad can successfully embrace the Italian's ideas as they prepare for the new campaign.
