Baartman was handed a start for Amakhosi's first game of the new season after struggling for appearances last term, following his switch from Cape Town Spurs.
The talented 20-year-old featured just seven times for Chiefs last season and only started the last game of the campaign against Chippa United.
But he was given the nod by new head coach Fernando Da Cruz and played 85 minutes before being replaced by Pule Mmodi.
Flavio Silva had opened the scoring at the Mbombela Stadium after just seven minutes.
Khetukuthula Ndlovu levelled on the stroke of half-time but Wandile Duba came on in the second half, for an injured Da Silva, to win the game with goals in the 56th and 66th minutes.
Speaking after the game, a delighted Baartman thanked Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr for his support last season when he wasn't getting game time.
He told SuperSport: "Last season, because I didn't get a lot of chances to play he always messaged me when I'm not in the team to keep going, to keep my head up. That's all."
“I want to give thanks to the man above,” the player added. "I think this one is going straight to my granny, to my community.
"It's been a tough season, last season. I've only been playing five games, started the last.
"I just want to give thanks to the coach for believing in me and trusting me, and thanks to my teammates as well."
