Kaizer Chiefs maintain perfect start to the season with Polokwane City win

While Amakhosi were coming into this game on the back of a strong 2-0 victory over Stellenbosch, Rise and Shine were held to a 0-0 stalemate with Magesi.

Siphesihle Ndlovu scored the only goal of this game after 79 minutes when it looked like the match was heading for a draw.

Chiefs boss Nasreddine Nabi refreshed his starting line up with Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Wandile Duba and Gaston Sirino all starting at the FNB Stadium.

But it was the travelling team who started the livelier of the two sides with Manuel Kambala testing Amakhosi goalkeeper Brandon Petersen early on with a shot from range.

Sirino then fired a free-kick on the edge of the City area wide of the target, before Petersen got down low to make a good stop to deny Mokibelo Ramabu from a set piece.

Brian Bwire was well placed to deny Glodly Lilepo with 28 minutes on the clock, while Chiefs created their best chance of the first half with ten minutes remaining as Lilepo powered a header against the crossbar.

The second half saw the introduction of Nkosingiphile Ngcobo for Mduduzi Shabalala for Chiefs in a bid to impact the game.

There wasn't an immediate reaction to the change though and Chiefs laboured to get out of first gear,  although Lilepo remained a contstant threat and forced a strong parry from Bwire with 57 minutes on the clock.

With Chiefs still misfiring in front of goal, more substitutions were made, with Pule Mmodi brought in for Sirino as Thabo Cele made way for Siphesihle Ndlovu and Monyane replaced Frosler.

With fresh legs and a more focused intent, Amakhosi pressed forward for a potential winner and were duly rewarded when substitute Ndlovu picked up a ball inside the area and rifled home into the bottom corner of the net.

Mmodi was wide as Chiefs looked to kill off the tie, while Wandile Duba was off target for the home team minutes later.

City wasted a chance to level the tie late on when substitute Puleng Marema fired a free-kick narrowly wide of the target.
