Cedric Kaze hails Nasreddine Nabi's strong hand in Kaizer Chiefs' form
Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze has assured supporters that head coach Nasreddine Nabi remains actively involved with the team, despite his absence from the touchline.
The youngster produced yet another Man of the Match performance in their 1-0 win against Polokwane City at FNB Stadium on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old academy graduate has been part of the Amakhosi setup for four seasons, but had to wait until the second-last game of the 2024/25 campaign to make his senior debut.
His chance came after standout showings for South Africa in the COSAFA Cup and African Nations Championship qualifiers.
Before stepping into the spotlight, McCarthy spent most of his time with the DStv Diski Challenge side, making 12 unused substitute appearances for the first team.
This pre-season, the injury to Rushwin Dortley and the departure of Dove Edmilson opened a path into the starting XI.
Partnering captain Inacio Miguel in central defence, McCarthy has excelled on the left side, showing composure, intelligence, and maturity beyond his years.
"I would say the one handing out the Man of the Match award is making our life difficult because he might think he's entitled to it every game now," Kaze joked.
"But it's good for him - he's a really nice kid, very professional on and off the pitch. He listens, he learns, and he's always around Zitha and Miguel to absorb their experience. Without injuries, he'll go far. He's a player with real quality."
With the MTN8 semi-finals this weekend, McCarthy and the while Amakhosi squad will have some time to recover fully and prepare for their next league game when they host Richards Bay United on Tuesday, 19 August.
