Keletso Makgalwa working hard to be one of the best players in the PSL

Keletso Makgalwa working hard to be one of the best players in the PSL

The Sekhukhune United winger has been one of the most creative players in the Betway Premiership this season, registering six assists in 15 matches across all competitions.

His consistency has caught the eye of national coach Hugo Broos, who included the 28-year-old in the squad to face Zambia in a friendly at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

"I think I'm getting closer to being one of the best players in the league," Makgalwa said.

"I'd like to thank coach Broos for the opportunity to be part of this amazing group."

For Makgalwa, the call-up represents more than recognition - it's a comeback story.

Once hailed as one of Mamelodi Sundowns' brightest prospects, the Mokopane-born star's career was derailed by injuries and inconsistency. He admits the road back to form has been long, but also revealing.

"I didn't start this season well, unlike last season, which was the best of my career," he said.

"Teams were planning for me after my 11 assists last year, so I had to adapt. With coach Eric Tinkler's help, I've improved my game and I'm performing well again."

Makgalwa's journey began with promise at Sundowns' academy, where he starred for South Africa at the 2017 FIFA Under-20 World Cup and the 2019 Under-23 Afcon. However, injuries stalled his rise following the treble-winning campaign under Pitso Mosimane.

Now, with his confidence restored and a national team debut in sight, Makgalwa says he's ready to take the next step and fulfill the potential that once made him one of South Africa's most exciting young talents.
