Khalil Ben Youssef: Kaizer Chiefs on the hunt for silverware

The Tunisian tactician is encouraged by the steady progress made under the new technical team. He believes the group have turned an important corner, saying their ambitions have not wavered despite the twists and turns of the league campaign.

Chiefs opened the season with an impressive level of stability, keeping five clean sheets in their first five matches - including a hard-fought draw against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

That strong defensive foundation laid the platform for a promising start, even though Amakhosi later endured a run of three consecutive league draws as early-season challenges tested their resolve.

According to Ben Youssef, the improvement seen in recent weeks stems from patience and persistence, two qualities he feels have helped the squad rediscover rhythm and belief.

He says this renewed confidence is evident in the team's more assured performances, signalling a meaningful turnaround after moments of inconsistency that hampered their efforts last season.

"For a team the size of Kaizer Chiefs, the target is the same every season - we compete for every position we're in," said Youssef.

"So, we're out of the Carling Cup, but there's the Nedbank Cup, the league and the African Cup (CAF Confederation Cup). In every game, we fight and compete and think about winning the title.

"Last time, we struggled a little bit with three draws, and now we are back to winning. We continue to fight and we'll see the results afterwards.

"I think it was our problem last season - we weren't consistent in our performances and results. The target of the team now is to keep winning games."
