Kyle Walker-Peters joins West Ham on free transfer after Southampton contract expires

The 28-year-old full-back was on the verge of a move to Turkish giants Besiktas last week, only for the deal to collapse when the club reportedly balked at his request to delay his arrival. That hesitation opened the door for West Ham, who wasted no time snapping up the experienced defender.

Walker-Peters will wear the number two shirt at the London Stadium and adds a solid 145 Premier League appearances to the Hammers' backline - a significant boost as they look to reinforce under new manager Graham Potter.

"It's been a long time coming," the England international told the club's website. "I've been linked with the club before, and I'm just happy it's finally happened."

Walker-Peters admits that playing under Graham Potter was a big factor in his decision.

"Graham was huge in making this happen," Walker-Peters said. "I've always admired his coaching style - it really fits how I play. High energy, high intensity - that's how I like to operate."

The defender also praised the club's atmosphere, noting the "family feel" Potter described in their conversations.

"I want to give everything in every match. West Ham want trophies, and so do I. Graham spoke about building something special here-and I want to be part of that story."

Walker-Peters arrives with proven top-flight pedigree and the hunger to help West Ham chase silverware. With ambition in the air and Potter at the helm, the Hammers might just be brewing something exciting in East London.
