Kylian Mbappe chief destroyer as Real Madrid put Kairat Almaty to the sword

Superstar Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick, reaching 60 Champions League goals in the process, as Los Blancos cruised to a comfortable victory on a chilly night at Almaty Central Stadium.

The Frenchman's first goal came from the penalty spot. Kairat goalkeeper Sherkhan Kalmurza came flying out of his area and took out Franco Mastantuono in the 25th minute, leaving the referee little choice but to award a penalty.

While the teams went down the tunnel with Real Madrid 1-0 ahead, the Spanish giants had controlled proceedings with aplomb.

Mbappe got the better of Kalmurza in the 52nd minute, controlling a deep ball from Thibaut Courtois and dinking it over the hapless gloveman. He then completed his treble after a great run from Rodrygo and Arda Guler set him on the edge of the box, which he finished with a powerful shot.

Rodrygo was again involved in setting up the fourth goal, resulting in Eduardo Camavinga heading home from close range.

In injury time, a pass from Gonzalo Garcia set up Brahim Diaz, who made no mistake with a tight cross shot to the bottom corner.

The result will go some way to eclipsing the 5-2 humbling Xabi Alonso's men received at the hands of Atletico Madrid in La Liga on Saturday.
