Lamine Yamal crowned La Liga's best after title-winning campaign with Barcelona

The 18-year-old beat competition from Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe, Real Betis midfielder Pablo Fornals, Villarreal winger Nicolas Pepe and Mallorca striker Vedat Muriqi to claim the award following a vote involving fans, club captains and a panel of experts.

Yamal enjoyed another remarkable campaign under Hansi Flick, scoring 16 league goals and providing 11 assists as Barcelona finished eight points clear of Real Madrid to secure a second consecutive championship. His performances also saw him become the first player to win La Liga's Player of the Month award three times in a single season.

The Spain international finished as Barcelona's top scorer in the league despite an injury-hit campaign. Groin and hamstring problems limited him to 28 appearances, while a hamstring injury suffered in April ruled him out of the club's final six matches of the season.

Even so, Yamal's influence remained decisive as Barcelona amassed 94 points on their way to a 29th league crown. The youngster's creativity was equally impressive, with no player in the division registering more assists.

Barcelona praised their star winger after the announcement, highlighting both his statistical output and his ability to unsettle opposing defences throughout the season.

The award is the first Player of the Season honour of Yamal's career and follows teammate Raphinha's triumph in the same category last year.

Mbappe, meanwhile, narrowly missed out despite finishing as La Liga's leading scorer with 25 goals. Muriqi ended the campaign with 23 goals for Mallorca but was unable to prevent the club's relegation, while Fornals and Pepe were recognised for helping Betis and Villarreal secure Champions League qualification.

Barcelona also collected other major individual honours, with Hansi Flick named Coach of the Season after guiding the club to another league title. Goalkeeper Joan García received the Save of the Season award for his outstanding stop against Espanyol, while Levante forward Carlos Espí was named Young Player of the Season after scoring 11 goals to help his side avoid relegation.

Real Madrid midfielder Arda Guler completed the list of award winners, earning Goal of the Season for his spectacular strike from the halfway line against Elche.

Yamal is now with the Spain squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup and is expected to play a central role for one of the tournament favourites. After overcoming concerns that injury could threaten his participation, the Barcelona star is targeting more silverware this summer as Spain bid to add a world title to their European Championship triumph two years ago.
