'Legend' Son Heung-min's trophy quest ends in Europa League glory for Tottenham

The triumph ended Spurs' 17-year wait for a major trophy and cemented Son's place among the club's legends.

Brennan Johnson's scrappy 42nd-minute goal sealed the win against their Premier League rivals, sparking delirium among the travelling Tottenham faithful.

For Son, who suffered agonizing defeats in the 2019 Champions League final and the 2021 Carabao Cup final across his decade in north London, the moment was deeply personal. "Let's say I'm a legend. Why not?" he told TNT Sports with a grin. "Only today! 17 years nobody has done it, so today, with these amazing players, probably a legend of the club.

"This is what I've always dreamed for. I am the happiest man in the world."

The South Korean, who once dismissed comparisons to Spurs' greats due to his lack of silverware, admitted the pressure had been immense. "I wanted it so badly," he said. "The last seven days, I was dreaming about this game every night. It finally happened, and I can sleep easy now!"

Despite a shaky domestic campaign, Spurs languish in 17th in the Premier League, the victory secures Champions League qualification, offering a lifeline for the season. "Tough times come, but we always stuck together," Son added. "We celebrate today and make it unforgettable. Maybe I'll miss the flight tomorrow!"

Recent X updates captured the euphoria. Tottenham's official account posted: "EUROPE IS OURS!  Son leads Spurs to glory! #EuropaLeagueWinners."

Manager Ange Postecoglou lauded his captain, writing on X: "Sonny's heart and leadership drove us. This is for our fans." Son shared a trophy-lifting snap, captioning it: "My dream came true. Forever Spurs. "

This triumph marks a defining chapter for Son and a potential springboard for Tottenham's ambitions.
