Lens say 'no' to moving big Ligue 1 match against PSG

Lens say 'no' to moving big Ligue 1 match against PSG

The top-of-the-table meeting is scheduled for April 11, but PSG, fresh from a 2–0 win over Chelsea in the Champions League, want to postpone it.

Their Champions League quarterfinal against Liverpool is set for April 8 and 14, immediately before and after the Lens game. The league had previously allowed PSG to delay a match against Nantes during the same period.

A PSG source confirmed the club officially requested the change on Monday. Lens responded swiftly, saying they "did not wish to see this date changed" and emphasised their commitment to "fairness, clear rules, and respect for all involved." The statement underlined the club's stance that French football should be governed by simple, transparent principles.

Lens coach Pierre Sage echoed the sentiment after his side's 5–1 win over Angers on Friday. "We played a French Cup match on a Thursday and then had to play on Sunday against Metz," he said.

"I understand that having rest allows for better performance, but PSG competes in many trophies, so they understand the constraints. We have not asked for such help this season."

Lens currently sit just one point behind PSG, who have a game in hand. A postponement could have a significant impact on the title race, and Lens are determined to stick to the original fixture date.
