Leroy Sane storms Istanbul: Galatasaray snag Bayern Munich star on free transfer

The former Manchester City star, now embarking on a new chapter, spoke briefly to reporters amidst the electric atmosphere, expressing his excitement for what lies ahead.

"I'm thrilled to be here. The fans are incredible, I can hear them already. I can't wait to step onto the pitch for my first home game," Sané said. "So many people came out late to welcome me, and I'm truly grateful."

Sane, who spent five years at Bayern Munich, explained what drove his decision to join the Turkish giants. "It was the whole package, the atmosphere, the passion of the fans, and how much Galatasaray wanted me.

"That's what made me say, 'I'm coming.' I'm here to achieve big things with this club," he said.

Reports indicate Bayern offered Sane a deal worth 12 million euros annually, with bonuses potentially adding another 3.5 million euros.

Galatasaray, however, tabled a contract worth 13 million euros per year, with the potential to reach 15 million euros including performance-based incentives.

Recent posts on X from Galatasaray's official account hailed Sane's arrival, with one stating, "Welcome to the Lions' den, Leroy Sane! A new era begins!" Fans echoed the sentiment, flooding the platform with messages of excitement, one user posting, "Sane's pace and flair are going to light up the Super Lig!"

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich's official X account wished Sane well, with a post reading, "Thank you for everything, Leroy. Wishing you success in your next chapter."

Galatasaray, fresh off their 2024-25 Super Lig title challenge, are banking on Sane's experience and attacking prowess to bolster their squad as they aim for domestic and European glory. The winger's debut is eagerly anticipated, with fans already buzzing about his potential impact in Istanbul.
