Liverpool land Hugo Ekitike in 79 million pounds deal from Eintracht Frankfurt

The 23-year-old passed his medical and agreed personal terms earlier this week. He will join the club's preseason tour of Asia later this week, pending final international clearance.

Frankfurt have accepted a package that includes a guaranteed 69 million pounds fee, with a further 10 million pounds in performance - related add-ons. Ekitike becomes Liverpool's latest marquee addition in what has already been a significant rebuild under new manager Arne Slot.

Ekitike arrives off the back of a standout Bundesliga campaign in which he netted 15 goals and contributed eight assists across 31 starts, helping Frankfurt to a third-place finish. His 117 shots led the German top flight-more than any other player - while only five players outscored him across the season.

The move takes Liverpool's transfer spend beyond 250 million pounds, following the club-record signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a potential 116 million pounds, and the acquisitions of full-backs Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong for a combined 70 million pounds.

Liverpool beat off competition from Newcastle, who had a 70 million pounds bid for Ekitike rejected earlier this month. The Merseyside club had also tracked Newcastle's Alexander Isak but ultimately opted to move for the younger French forward.

For Liverpool, Ekitike's arrival reflects both a long-term investment and a clear commitment to evolving the squad following Jurgen Klopp's departure. Known for his mobility, link-up play, and ability to create as well as finish, Ekitike adds a new dynamic to a Liverpool front line that already features Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo.

Liverpool fans will get their first glimpse of the Frenchman in action during the club's preseason fixtures in Asia, as the Reds prepare for the start of the Premier League season and a return to Champions League football.
