Liverpool snatch late winner at rivals Everton to boost Champions League hopes

The Blues applied the initial pressure in the opening 20 minutes of the match with Beto and Dwight McNeil coming close to scoring before the visitors settled into the match.

In the 28th minute, VAR ruled out an Iliman Ndiaye's strike following a review with Mohamed Salah making the most of the reprieve to score the opener two minutes later from a Cody Gakpo assist.

The Toffees were lucky to not concede another goal in the first half with the Reds dominating proceedings and constantly testing Jordan Pickford in goal.

However, the home side were quick off their blocks in the second half and were duly rewarded when striker equalized with a clinical finish after a Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall assist in the 55th minute.

The two sides resorted to speculative long-range efforts thereafter as they looked for a decisive winner but with the match looking to be headed for a draw.

In the eleventh minute of stoppage time, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk rose highest to nod home from a Dominik Szoboszlai corner to break the hearts of the home fans.

The result sees Everton remain tenth on the Premier League table while Liverpool stay in the final Champions League qualifying spot [fifth] but move seven points ahead of sixth placed Chelsea.
