Liverpool's Arne Slot cautious of Crystal Palace ahead of Carabao Cup clash

Liverpool's Arne Slot cautious of Crystal Palace ahead of Carabao Cup clash

The Reds will be facing the Eagles for the third time this season after having lost the FA Community tie on penalties and their Premier League clash 2-1 in September.

Crystal Palace are unbeaten in their last three matches against Liverpool at Anfield, winning once and drawing twice in those encounters.

"Of course, we have already faced Palace in the Premier League this season and the result on that occasion was not what we would have hoped for. Credit to Palace for that," Slot told the Liverpool website.

"Their winning goal came very late on that occasion after we had equalised following a difficult first half for us, so we should be aware not just of the problems they can cause but also of their ability to keep going until the final whistle."

Liverpool will be without the injured Alisson Becker, Jeremie Frimpong and Giovanni Leon whilst a late call will be made regarding Curtis Jones fitness after he limped off in the  3-2 defeat by Brentford.

New recruit Hugo Ekitike returns to the squad after serving a one-match suspension for his red card in the previous round against Southampton, but no updates have been given about Aleksander Isak and Ryan Gravenberch who also missed the loss to the Bees.

"At the time of writing these notes I have not made a final decision on the squad that we will use for this game," added the Dutch head coach.

"There is a need to train and to check on availability - but whichever players we use have to be ready to face a team like Palace."
