Mamelodi Sundowns boss Miguel Cardoso proud to be honoured by Portuguese Football Federation

The Portuguese former Esperance head coach guided Mamelodi Sundowns to their eighth consecutive league title in his first season with the club during the 2024/25 campaign.

He also steered his side to the CAF Champions League final where they lost to Egyptian giants Pyramids.

Before joining the Brazilians, Cardoso secured the Tunisian league with Esperance, while also losing in the CAF Champions League final, to Al Ahly

Cardoso is busy preparing his side for the upcoming Betway Premiership and has revealed he was "honoured" in his home country.

He said in the Citizen: "It's true that I was also honoured in Portugal. I received a letter from the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, recognising the work I've recently done in Africa.

"I was also recognised by the Portuguese Football Coaches Association and awarded the Jose Maria Pedroto Award which is named after a very important coach in Portugal who managed FC Porto.

"This award is directly related to the work at Mamelodi Sundowns, including our champions league final qualification and winning the PSL."

Cardoso has also been nominated for the Premier Soccer League Coach of the Season alongside Stellenbosch's Steve Barker and former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro.
