Mamelodi Sundowns boss stands firm behind Miguel Cardoso amid fan pressure

Cardoso has faced mounting scrutiny this season following domestic cup exits and performances some fans believe have fallen short of the club's lofty standards. Yet Sundowns remain firmly in the Betway Premiership title race, sitting top of the table on goal difference ahead of Orlando Pirates.

The Brazilians have also reached the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League, where they have been drawn against first-time quarter-finalists Stade Malien.

Recent results appear to have steadied the ship. Sundowns secured back-to-back statement victories, defeating MC Alger - coached by former Downs boss Rulani Mokwena - before edging Pirates 2-1 at the FNB Stadium to swing the title race back in their favour.

"As a football club, we hear the fans, we hear the frustrations they felt at the time, but again, it's about empathy and understanding their circumstances and also then understanding the technical team and the coaches' circumstances," Motsepe said.

He emphasised the club's long-term vision, insisting that stability remains central to their project.

"We're a long-term club, we look at a project in its entirety... At this moment we have a lot of support and faith in our coaches and technical team."

Motsepe also thanked supporters who packed Loftus Versfeld Stadium for the crucial win over MC Alger, praising their backing during what he described as a "do-or-die" encounter.

Sundowns now shift focus to another crucial test as they host third-placed Sekhukhune United on Sunday afternoon, aiming to maintain their grip at the summit.
