Mamelodi Sundowns look to end MTN8 drought ahead of Polokwane City clash

Masandawana are set to play their first match of the season following the postponement of their opening Betway Premiership fixture against Marumo Gallants last weekend.

Meanwhile, Polokwane City head into the fixture in high spirits following the hard fought 2-1 victory over Richards Bay at uMhlathuze Stadium last Sunday.

Bafana Bafana and Sundowns wingback Aubrey Modiba has expressed his teams desire to end their domestic trophy drought, having last won a top eight title in 2021.

"To be honest we haven't been doing well especially in local tournaments," admitted Modiba.

"We've been losing finals, semi-finals, but this season we want to do better than last season.

"So hopefully this season we can be able to compete in the final and give ourselves a chance to lift the trophy."

Polokwane City veteran Puleng Marema believes his side is capable of pulling off an upset against the Tshwane giants.

"They [Sundowns] haven't won this trophy for five years, I think now they want it," said the 35-year-old striker.

"But also, we want to progress, we know it's not going to be easy, but I think from my side and the boys, we are ready and we can't wait to play against them on Saturday."

The Brazilians will be without Colombian star attacker Brayan Leon, who misses out due to suspension after accumulating four yellow cards last season.

Kick-off is at 18h00.
