Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena grateful after reaching Bafana milestone

Mokoena played the first half of the friendly international at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday before being replaced by Thalente Mbatha.

The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder made his Bafana debut in 2018 under former head coach Stuart Baxter and has gone on to become an integral part of Hugo Broos' current setup.

Speaking after the recent win, here Oswin Appollis (42'), Mohau Nkota (61') and Yaya Sithole (68') were all on target, ahead of a late Joseph Banda strike, Mokoena said he was grateful for his international career, and thanked both Baxter and international teammate Percy Tau.

He told SABC Sport: "This is a big day in my life, I'm very grateful to have come this far.

"Today is my 50th cap, I'm very excited and looking forward to the future.

"I'm feeling very happy, I don't have words to express myself, but I want to thank coach Hugo because I started being a regular under him.

"I also want to thank Baxter because he is the one who gave me a Bafana debut. I want to thank everyone who sent me messages before the game even during the week. I appreciate it.

"I just want to give credit to Percy Tau because during my first cap he was around and he was the one who told me my time is gonna come.

"Unfortunately, he's not here today but I want to give him his flowers for always being there for me."
