Mamelodi Sundowns release Thembinkosi Lorch and Neo Maema as clear-out continues

Lorch joined the Brazilians from Orlando Pirates in 2024 but went on to play just 26 games, scoring seven goals and creating four before being sent out on loan to Wydad AC for the second half of last season.

Maema signed for Downs from Royal AM in 2021 and played 120 times, scoring 13 goals and creating a further 14.

Both were seen as surplus to requirements this season under Sundowns' boss Miguel Cardoso, who has been working to trim a bloated squad.

While Lorch could potentially return to Wydad, Maema has been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs.

A club post read: "After four incredible years, four league titles, one Nedbank Cup, one MTN8, one African Football League title, 120 appearances, 13 goals and 14 assists, the Yellow Nation bids farewell to Neo Maema. We wish you success in the next step of your career.

“After two unforgettable years, one league title, 26 appearances, seven goals and four assists, the Yellow Nation thanks and celebrates Thembinkosi Lorch. Wishing you all the best as you start the next chapter of your journey.”
