Manchester United star Amad Diallo withdrawn from Ivory Coast squad

Diallo missed the 2026 World Cup qualifying victories against Burundi and The Gambia in March due to an ankle injury, but was expected to return to the squad for the four-nation friendly tournament in Canada.

However, the Ivory Coast Football Federation (FIF) announced that Amad Diallo and Dorgeles Maho will not be part of coach Emerse Fae's squad for the friendly fixtures against New Zealand and Canada.

"The Ivorian Football Federation informs the press and the public that players Amad Diallo and Dorgeles Maho, called up by national coach Emerse Fae as part of the four-nation tournament called the Canadian Shield, are unavailable for administrative reasons," read the statement.

"Consequently, Manchester United player Amad Diallo and Dorgeles Mario of FC Nordsjaelland are respectively replaced by Atlanta United Football Club player Emmanuel Latte and Mory Gbane of Stade de Reims for this friendly international competition in Toronto, Canada."

The 22-year-old Diallo has not played for The Elephants since coming on as a 61st-minute substitute in the 2-0 win against Chad in a 2025 African Cup of Nations group G qualifier.

He has collected six caps for the national team, scoring once since making his debut for Ivory Coast as a teenager under former coach Patrice Beaumelle.

The tricky winger contributed 11 goals and 10 assists for Manchester United in all competitions last season, featuring in 43 matches despite being sidelined for almost three months due to injury.

Ivory Coast will face New Zealand on Sunday, June 8, and then Canada on Wednesday, June 11, with both matches taking place at BMO Field in Toronto.
