City return to European action looking to build consistency during a demanding run of fixtures. The match will be their fourth in nine days and their third consecutive home game.
Guehi has played every minute of that sequence, which included a 3-0 victory over Liverpool, a 4-2 Champions League defeat by Paris Saint-Germain and a 3-2 Premier League win against Ipswich Town.
Despite their strong start to the domestic campaign, City's defensive performances have raised questions, with nine goals conceded across their last three home matches.
However, Guehi believes the team are still adapting to Maresca's methods and will improve as they become more familiar with his tactical demands.
"New manager and getting used to playing together in the system the manager wants us to (use), and hopefully as time goes by, we learn and improve," the England defender said.
Guehi also accepted responsibility for his own performances, insisting that reviewing mistakes is an important part of the development process.
"Things that we can do better. For example, in the last game I know I can do better but that's just football," he said.
"There's work we can do as a team but when I look at those goals at the weekend, it's down to me and for me to look at and try to improve and put right in the next game."
With matches coming thick and fast, City have also had to balance tactical preparation with recovery to keep their players fit.
Guehi explained that video analysis and time on the training pitch remain important, although rest and sleep are equally essential during such a busy period.
City have collected three points from their opening two Champions League league-phase matches. A 2-0 win away to Porto was followed by their defeat against reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain.
They will now look to get their European campaign back on track against an AEK Athens side that also have three points from two matches.
Guehi expects a difficult contest against the Greek visitors, highlighting their attacking quality and experience.
"We know they're a very good team and got a win in their first game and have very good attackers that have a lot of experience," he said.
"So we need to be aware and mindful of that."
The defender expects AEK to make life difficult for City, but believes his side can secure an important victory if they perform to their potential.
"They are going to come here and try to make the game difficult, but hopefully we can do well and get the three points," Guehi added.
