Marumo Gallants crush Stellenbosch to reach Carling Knockout semifinals

Marumo Gallants crush Stellenbosch to reach Carling Knockout semifinals

Fresh off their CAF Confederation Cup qualification, Stellenbosch began brightly. Devin Titus and Langelihle Phili both went close early on, but neither could find the target. Their missed chances proved costly as Gallants hit back through Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, who finished neatly from a Katlego Otladisa cross in the 28th minute.

That opener shifted the momentum sharply. Stellenbosch's early rhythm faded as Gallants began to dictate play through crisp passing and well-timed pressing. Washington Arubi, the experienced Gallants goalkeeper, made a crucial save from Andre De Jong to deny an equaliser, keeping his side firmly in control heading into halftime.

The rain intensified after the break, but Gallants showed greater composure and physicality in the tough conditions. Their midfield trio bossed possession, forcing Stellies into hurried clearances while continuously probing for space behind the defence.

The hosts grew stronger after halftime, and Ndlondlo doubled the lead with a superb curling strike past Oscarine Masuluke. Stellenbosch's response was limited despite coach Steve Barker introducing fresh legs in Sanele Barns, Lesiba Nku, and Khiba.

Gallants remained ruthless in the closing stages. Monde Mpambaniso made it 3–0 after pouncing on a poor clearance before Edgar Manaka headed home from a corner to complete the 4–0 rout.

It was a commanding performance from Bahlabane Ba Ntwa, who outplayed and outworked a Stellenbosch side that struggled to recover from early setbacks. Gallants now advance to the semifinals brimming with confidence and momentum.
