Michael Carrick vows not to get 'carried away' by Manchester United's derby triumph

The Red Devils put in a spirited and convincing performance to overcome neighbours Man City at Old Trafford on Saturday thanks to second half goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu.

"It was a very special day but I'm not getting carried away," said Carrick to MUTV and Sky Sports after the match.

"It's one game and it's really important we don't get carried away. It needs to be a regular feeling, that level of performance needs to be consistently what we're getting."

The victory marked United's first victory of the new year after four winless matches including a FA Cup third round exit against Brighton and Hove Albion.

"It's a fantastic result and there is an element of soaking it up and enjoying it but it's definitely not enough and never enough," added the manager.

"If you look at the result, we had three days to work on it, and we've got to keep building on that."

The result sees United move up to fifth on the Premier League table ahead of their trip to face top of the table Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium next Sunday.
