Miguel Cardoso praises Sundowns' second-half turnaround in CAF Champions League victory

The Tshwane giants secured a 3-1 victory in their Group C opener of the CAF Champions League, thanks to a brace from Nuno Santos and a goal from Marcelo Allende. The win came after Ramos Wanet Kashala cancelled out Santos' early opener, leaving the scores level at half-time.

"I think first half we started very well, we were dynamic. But the goal gave the sensation the game would be easier than in reality it was supposed to be. Not really happy at half-time, pushed some things, pushed some attitude, I think we had the answer we needed," Cardoso told SABC Sport.

The Portuguese tactician emphasized the importance of maintaining intensity and balance throughout the match, and highlighted Sundowns' tactical flexibility in the second half.

"These kinds of games can be tricky. When you score one, you should immediately go with full energy to double it. When you don't, sometimes you can be penalised. But I think we made a beautiful game in the end, a wonderful game. It's important to make a nice balance and achieve a good result, while understanding the responsibility you have in the competition."

"Sometimes, the first match can make you a little bit rusty. But we did well. We introduced variability, changes, and tactical adjustments to bring new challenges on the pitch, and then the goals happened. Congratulations to the team for the second-half performance. Now we look forward to the rest of the competition," he added.

With this victory, Sundowns kick-off their CAF Champions League campaign on a high note, showing resilience and adaptability that could prove crucial in the group stages.
