Myriam Nyadjou on target as Cameroon sink Nigeria to reach WAFCON semis

Myriam Nyadjou scored the only goal of the game at Stade Mohamed V Stadium after 19 minutes without reply.

As a result of the loss, the Super Falcons also miss out on automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup and will now have to go through the playoffs.

Nigeria started their WAFCON campaign slowly with a 3-2 defeat to Malawi before seeing off Zambia 1-0 and Egypt 6-2.

They put up an excellent fight against a Cameroon side that progressed to the quarter-finals with a 2-1 win over Mali, 1-0 defeat of Ghana and 1-1 draw with Cape Verde, ahead of seeing off Nigeria.

Cameroon goalkeeper Michaely Bihina was excellent throughout the tie and must take credit for the win after making as many as eight crucial saves as Nigeria searched for an equaliser.

The four teams that reach the semi-finals secure direct qualification for the World Cup, while Nigeria next head to the African play-offs alongside the other three quarter-final losers.
