Nayef Aguerd reportedly close to Al Sadd move as Marseille reshape squad

Aguerd, who joined the French club only last off-season, remains under contract until 2030. However, he has emerged as one of the players Marseille is prepared to offload as the club looks to reduce its wage bill and strengthen its financial position.

According to FootMercato, as cited by Morocco World News, Marseille had initially hoped to secure a permanent transfer that would generate an immediate transfer fee.

However, after finding the market more challenging than expected, the Ligue 1 club is now reportedly willing to accept the loan deal proposed by Al Sadd.

The transfer has not yet been finalised, with the report adding that the Qatari club still needs to reach an agreement on personal terms with the Moroccan defender.

Aguerd has also attracted interest from other clubs during the transfer window. FootMercato previously reported that his former club, Rennes, explored the possibility of re-signing him, but talks failed to progress.

The 30-year-old centre-back has earned 64 caps for Morocco and remains one of the Atlas Lions' most experienced defenders.

Neither Marseille nor Al Sadd has officially commented on the reported deal.
