Leeds United land Newcastle star Sean Longstaff
Leeds United have completed the signing of midfielder Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United, marking their fifth addition of the summer transfer window.
Bornauw revealed he had spent five months watching Leeds "nearly every week" prior to the move, admitting he became emotionally invested in their successful push for Premier League promotion.
Despite the emotional connection, Bornauw stressed that the transfer was not conditional on Leeds reaching the top flight.
Instead, it was the club's vision and identity under manager Daniel Farke that convinced him.
Bornauw also praised the way the transfer was handled behind the scenes. He commended Leeds for keeping negotiations under wraps, saying the discretion helped ensure the deal progressed smoothly.
The 25-year-old joins at a time of renewed optimism at Elland Road, with Farke's side aiming to re-establish themselves in the Premier League.
His arrival adds experience and composure to the backline, as the Whites look to build a competitive squad for the challenges ahead.
"I think the manager wants to adapt our playing style a bit, but not too much," said Bornauw.
"He wants a combination of the strength we had last year and obviously stepping up to the Premier League level, so that's what I would say I think he will do.
"I feel ready. Two of my old team-mates are doing really well in the Premier League, Maxence Lacroix and Micky van der Ven, both good friends of mine.
"I think the Premier League style of play will suit me."
