South Africa head coach Hugo Broos was forced into a number of changes with Mamelodi Sundowns not releasing players due to their involvement in the upcoming Club World Cup that takes place in the United States.
Molde's Samukelo Kabini and Luke Le Roux from IFK Varnamo were both included, alongside a strong contingent from Orlando Pirates, with nine players earning call-ups, including youngsters Simphiwe Selepe, Mohau Nkota and Mbekezeli Mbokazi.
Broos has also confirmed that Orlando Pirates defender Nkosinathi Sibisi will captain the team for this match.
None of the three Kaizer Chiefs players included in the initial squad made the final cut.
South Africa come into the tie on the back of successive 2-0 wins, over Lesotho and Benin in World Cup qualifiers, while Taifa Stars were last in action in March, beating Congo 3-0 and losing 2-0 to Morocco.
Ahead of the game, Broos said on Goal: "I know that the presence of Sundowns players in the national team has always been important. Why? because those are players who're very experienced at the higher level, so they helped us a lot in the past.
"But as you know that I am not a coach who always looks only at the top teams [to get players], I always look at other teams as well. Some of the Sundowns players are now 30 and older, so we also have to think about the future."
He added: "I think these two matches are great opportunities for the new players and also the younger players who have joined us. There is no pressure when one plays friendly matches, and from my side, I will give every player the same amount of game time."
In three previous meetings, South Africa have lost twice and won once against Tanzania, and will use this match as preparations for upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Lesotho and Nigeria in September.
Bafana are next in action against Mozambique, also at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, this Tuesday.
