Fagrie Lakay steers Cleopatra to Egyptian League Cup success
Bafana striker Fagrie Lakay has won the Egyptian League Cup with Ceremica Cleopatra.
Sinoxolo Kwayiba netted the opening goal of the game after 47 minutes, in just his third appearance for his country.
Ashley Cupido then came off the bench in the second half and needed just three minutes to make an impact as he hit the target with 70 minutes on the clock.
The result comes on the back of a goalless draw with Tanzania on Friday night where Bafana boss Hugo Broos named a new-look team.
The head coach featured an all-new starting line-up again this time around, that included debutants Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Samukele Kabini and Yanela Mbuthuma.
Bafana were guilty of missing a number of chances in the first half, with Mohau Nkota unable able to steer his shot past Ivane Urrubal in the Mozambique goal.
Urrubal then did well to deny Relebohile Mofokeng from finding the target with a strong save from outside the area, before denying what looked like a clear goal-scoring opportunity from close range from Kwayiba that he somehow failed to convert.
Mofokeng was denied again by the busy shotstopper as the half drew to a close, but he could do nothing to stop Kwayiba from handing Bafana the lead just minutes after the restart as he headed home a corner from Nkota.
Cupido was one of three players introduced after the break, alongside Oswin Appollis and goalkeeper Renaldo Lerner, and made an immediate impact with a super finish, from another Nkota assist.
Mozambique looked to respond and saw more of the ball in the later stages, with Shaquille coming close to a consolation goal with a header that Lerner tipped past the post.
