Nigeria star Samuel Chukwueze doubtful for African World Cup playoffs

Nigeria star Samuel Chukwueze doubtful for African World Cup playoffs

Fulham manager Marco Silva confirmed that Chukwueze is among seven players likely to miss this weekend's clash against Newcastle, according to The Guardian.

"It's difficult to set a timeframe for Chukwueze's return," Silva said, adding that the player's recovery will be closely monitored by Fulham's medical team.

Nigeria face Gabon in the first semi-final of the African playoff in Morocco on November 13, before taking on the winner of the second semi-final between Congo DR and Cameroon on November 16.

The playoff victor will advance to an intercontinental playoff, where the final two spots for the 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will be decided.

Chukwueze was a standout performer in Nigeria's 4-0 victory over Benin Republic in their last Group C match during the regular World Cup qualifiers, underlining the potential blow his absence could pose for the Super Eagles.

Nigeria will be hoping Chukwueze can recover in time to feature in what promises to be a decisive playoff campaign.
