Nigerian striker revels in Crystal Palace debut ovation

The 22-year-old forward, signed from Spanish side Getafe on transfer deadline day, was introduced in the 84th minute of Palace's 0-0 draw with Sunderland at Selhurst Park, Pulse Sports reported.

Despite having just two training sessions with his new teammates after returning from World Cup qualifying duty in South Africa, Uche wasted no time in showing glimpses of his quality.

He came close to marking his debut with a goal, forcing Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs into a fine save at the back post. Minutes later, Uche went down under pressure inside the penalty area, sparking loud appeals from Palace players and supporters.

However, after a VAR review, referee Thomas Bramall controversially waved play on - much to the frustration of both Uche and his manager Oliver Glasner.

"The VAR must have told the referee that the Sunderland player didn't touch him, but from what I saw, there was contact," Glasner told the BBC after the match.

Uche, who completed 71% of his passes, registered one shot on target, and even made a recovery in his short cameo, later reflected on the moment with pride.

"The fans are good. Once I came on, they were hailing 'Uche, Uche'. That motivated me even more because I play with the fans, I play with everybody. Once the fans trust me, I will give everything - 100%," said the striker.

Although the Eagles were denied a dramatic ending, Uche's lively debut left a strong impression and hinted at an exciting journey ahead in South London.
