Pitso Mosimane names final Bafana Bafana squad for 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers

Mosimane had named an initial 35-man squad two weeks ago and has now cut that down to 30 players.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor was appointed as successor to Hugo Broos following his retirement after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His immediate task is to qualify South Africa for the next AFCON and 54tf ranked team will take on 81st ranked Guinea at Orlando Amstel Arena on 26 September and 184th ranked Eritrea on 30 September.

After announcing his team, Mosimane said on iDiski Times: "We have reduced the 35 to 30 players, not an easy thing to do.

"We had to do our homework, who we called, why we called. But you must also understand why we couldn't call all the players.

"Two qualifiers, one friendly. Everyone understands the importance of the qualifiers. But Egypt are also a big gun. It's important to face the big guns.

"We kept the core of the World Cup team, but we have five players out due to injury, and we also want to give young players a chance."
