The Orlando Pirates defender delivered a strong performance against Guinea, helping Bafana deal with the visitors' dangerous wide players as Mosimane began his latest spell as national team head coach with three points.
Sebelebele's display has added further competition to a position where Mosimane also has Mamelodi Sundowns defender Thabang Matuludi and experienced international Thapelo Morena at his disposal.
While Mosimane acknowledged Matuludi's qualities, he explained that Sebelebele's pace made him the better fit for the specific challenge posed by Guinea.
"It's very difficult we have Matuludi who is a top player also, but Mike has that speed, and Matuludi has a cross, but I didn't need crosses. I've got Thapelo Maseko on that side, and what a team Guinea," Mosimane told SABC Sport.
The Bafana coach believes the competition for the position can only benefit the national team, with different players offering different qualities.
Against Guinea, Mosimane opted for Sebelebele because he wanted a defender capable of matching the pace and trickery of the opposition's wingers.
The coach also admitted he was impressed by Guinea's overall quality despite their defeat, questioning why they have been absent from recent AFCON tournaments.
"I don't understand this team has not been in the AFCON for some time, unbelievable team. I think we're gonna see a lot in this group."
Mosimane is already looking ahead to the next Group D fixtures, with the meeting between Guinea and Kenya potentially providing further insight into how competitive the group could become.
"I want to see Guinea against Kenya in Kenya what's gonna happen? It's a tough group," he added.
Sebelebele's performance means Mosimane now faces an interesting selection decision ahead of Bafana's next qualifier against Eritrea on Wednesday, with Matuludi and Morena also competing for the right-back position.
